ABOUT

Lisa de St. Croix was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from The School of Visual Arts, New York, NY. Lisa was an apprentice to artists Miriam Schapiro and Paul Waldman. Following graduation Lisa lived in Boston for two years where she exhibited her paintings at The Alpha Gallery and the Stavaridis Gallery. Graham Gund, Trustee of Boston Museum of Fine Art, bought a painting for his esteemed collection. Lisa returned to New York City where she exhibited her paintings in many solo and group shows, such as The Bond Gallery and Henry St. Settlement House. She was chosen by Lowery Simms, curator of The Metropolitan Museum to be in The SVA Alumni Exhibition at Leo Castelli Gallery, NY. Lisa was an Artist-in-Residence at Artpark in New York where she created a large installation. She also created an installation for Broadway Windows, NYU. She received a “Changes” grant from the Robert Rauchenberg Foundation.

Lisa moved New Mexico and lived on the Zuni Reservation. She exhibited her paintings in Santa Fe at Waxlander Gallery and Guadalupe Fine Art on Canyon Road. Lisa also exhibited widely throughout New Mexico as well as at Dartmouth St. Gallery and several non-profit spaces in Albuquerque. She was represented by Jandreau Gallery in Taos. Since moving to Santa Fe in 2007, Lisa’s paintings have been exhibited at The Center for Contemporary Art and several galleries on Canyon Road, the Railyard and around the Plaza. Lisa has participated in four Santa Fe Studio Tours. Lisa’s paintings have also been shown in California, Oregon and Arizona. Lisa has had several international exhibitions in South Africa, France, Portugal, Canada and Mexico. Twice Lisa has been awarded the New Mexico Arts Purchase Award and her paintings are in many public collections. Her work hangs in six hospitals, The Corrales Court House and New Mexico University. Lisa has sat on several panels at The New Mexico School of Art and Design and The Center for Contemporary Arts. She has been interviewed in two documentaries: “Painted in the Desert” and “Invitation to the Muse” as well as on radio and on television in Portugal. Lisa teaches workshops internationally and online as well as in her Santa Fe studio. She has designed sets; written and produced puppet shows and was a founding member of The El Morro Area Arts Council. Lisa has painted several murals on public buildings.

In 2015 Lisa studied Sacred Painting using a gouache and watercolor wash technique in Haridwar, India at Johari House, a technique she uses in her paintings and Oracle decks. Lisa published and has a world wide following for her award winning Tarot de St. Croix and four Oracle decks: Natural Wisdom Oracle, Sacred Union Oracle, Invoking the Goddess Oracle, de St. Croix Lenormand Oracle. Lisa’s paintings and decks are inspired by her visions, experiences and metaphysical knowledge.
